The Auditor General Irakli Mekvabishvili presented the 2019 annual report of the State Audit Office to the Parliament.
In 2019, the State Audit Office conducted 70 audits, covering more than 12 billion GEL. Issued up to 1000 recommendations based on audit findings.
Altogether, the total amount of violations detected by the audits amounted to 68 million GEL, which includes systemic violations. Systemic violations are mainly related to inefficient, uneconomical and inappropriate use of budget resources, as well as shortcomings in procurement and asset management.
Due to the high-risk circumstances, 34 reports were sent to law enforcement agencies for further response.
The State Audit Office conducted audits of projects funded by international donors, such as the World Bank and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Participated and conducted two international audits with the Eastern Partnership countries.
