The SAO of Georgia has joined the new initiative of the INTOSAI/IDI, focused on strengthening legal units of Supreme Audit Institutions (LEG SAI).
At the invitation of IDI, a working meeting was held in Madrid, where the head of the Legal Department of the SAO of Georgia, Nato Zaalishvili, was invited as an expert along with the representatives of the supreme audit organizations of Brazil, the Czech Republic, Spain, Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa.
The LEG SAI initiative is aimed at supporting the legal units of SAIs, which are key to safeguard the independence of SAIs, based on best practices and experiences of successful SAIs.
In this regard, Nato Zaalishvili introduced her colleagues to achievements in legal support in strengthening SAO's independence.
During the Madrid meeting, the LEG SAI initiative concept and an action plan for its implementation were developed. Within this project, Nato Zaalishvili will provide expert support to the IDI initiative standing for independence of SAIs.
