The XI working meeting–seminar of EUROSAI Working Group on the Audit of Funds Allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes was convened in Rome, Italy. Phridon Shengelia, Head of the Department of Audits in the Fields of Defense, Public Order, and Security, along with his Deputy, Giorgi Khitarishvili, represented the State Audit Office of Georgia.
The meeting focused on assessing the progress made by member countries in preventing and responding to natural and man-made disasters. Participants shared their insights on innovative practices and discussed the Working Group’s strategic plans for 2025–2027.
The State Audit Office of Georgia presented key challenges, audit findings, and recommendations related to the performance audits of anti-hail systems, along with the status of their implementation.
The Working Group agenda included sessions: “Together Against Disasters: From Preparedness to Innovation” and “Innovative Approaches and Digital Solutions in Disaster Management Audits.” Participants gained insights about international experiences in the auditing of specialized applications, the use of artificial intelligence, and the auditing of critical information infrastructure.
To close the seminar, attendees joined breakout groups for practical exercises and case studies on topics such as “Rapid Audit Planning Based on Scenarios” and “Developing an Audit Strategy Using Digital Tools.
The meeting was hosted by Supreme Audit Institution of Italy and chaired by the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine, the current Chair of this Working Group.
