The audit results of the 2022 - 2023 financial statements of the 8 sectoral ministries of the central government have been discussed at the Working Group on the Audit Reports in the Parliament.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Auditor General Sophio Dvalishvili and heads of sectoral audit departments. The presentation on the reports was delivered to the Members of Parliament by Giorgi Khitarishvili, Deputy Head of the Audit Department of the Defense, Public Order and Security Department of the SAO. The presentation included the findings and recommendations of financial audits for the following ministries: Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure; Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development; Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture; Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection; Ministry of Education, Science and Youth; Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Defense.
The findings primarily addressed deficiencies in asset management, receivables and liabilities, accounting and reporting, and general internal control systems. 5 qualified and 4 adverse opinions have been issued during the audit process, along with 27 recommendations.
The recommendations aim to ensure accurate accounting of assets and mainly include the following measures: development of control mechanisms that ensure proper accounting of assets; identification of unaccounted assets and their appropriate reflection in financial information; improvement of the asset inventory process; establishment of asset recognition criteria and appropriate accounting; appropriate reclassification of incorrectly accounted assets.
During the meeting, Deputy Auditor General Sophio Dvalishvili and heads of ministries answered questions from the MPs. Auditees also discussed the status of implementation of the
recommendations.
