On June 19-20, the second regional conference on “Money in Politics” was held in Marriott Tbilisi Hotel. The conference is an opportunity for political finance oversight agencies, political representatives, anti-corruption services as well as civil society organizations of Central and Eastern Europe to identify areas that require reforms and new approaches, exchange of good practices and lessons learned regarding the effective enforcement and monitoring of political finance legal frameworks and mechanisms for improving existing regulations.
In addition, the conference also aimed to create a regional peer network on political finance and to increase collaboration across national borders. This will help the relevant bodies to establish important relationship with experts, politicians, donor organizations and state bodies, which carry out monitoring of political finances.
This conference was held for the second time in Georgia and continues the tradition, which has been successfully started in February 2016. The conference is joint event of the SAO, Council of Europe, OSCE/ODIHR, International IDEA, TI-Georgia, IFES and NIMD. More than 100 representatives of different countries took part in the conference.
