SAO’s Closing Meeting of the Parliamentary Temporary Commission on Implementation of the 2016 Financial Audit in the Parliament of Georgia 08 June, 2017

 Today, on June 8, SAO’s closing meeting of the parliamentary temporary commission on implementation of the 2016 financial audit took place in the Parliament of Georgia.

At the meeting, the parties discussed close cooperation between the Parliament of Georgia and the State Audit Office.

Today, the final draft of the “ parliamentary temporary commission on implementation of the SAO’s 2016 financial audit” was reviewed at the closing meeting.

The commission, was established according to the decree N454-II of March 10, 2017 of the Parliament of Georgia, for a period of  3 months and was staffed with 14 members.

The temporary commission conducted SAO’s financial audit according to the international standards and presented 70-page draft document to the parliament.

As Auditor General Lasha Tordia stated, the parliamentary commission issued really very good report. He noted that “this was step forward.” According to Tordia, he appreciated this fact, which was carried out by the parliament. „We had very good coordination with the parliamentary commission and in comparison with recent years, we had better working process,” said Lasha Tordia.

„Parliamentary commission held effective work. I think that these both institutes should work together and such kind activities should be implemented in the future as well. We have to provide parliamentary oversight as well as should ensure maximum independence of the state audit. Audit is a main lever of the Parliament in order to ensure effective expenditure of state and budgetary funds and transparency of funds which are being implemented by the government. This year, work of this commission is a good example of how budget and finance committee and the parliament should cooperate in this regard, “stated chair of the Budget and Finance Commission Irakli Kovzanadze.

The report of the temporary commission was approved by the full staff of the commission and representatives of the State Audit Office.

The report will be submitted to the Bureau and will be discussed at the next session of the Parliament.
