U.S. Government Accountability Office Has Carried Out a Training Course for the IT Auditors of State Audit Office of Georgia 20 January, 2017

On January 16-20, 2017 State Audit Office of Georgia hosted the experts of Center for Audit Excellence of the U.S. Government Accountability Office – Mr. Charles Vrabel and Ms. Barbara Oliver. American colleagues conducted a weeklong training course for the auditors of SAO’s IT audit unit, within which they shared their experience in the field of information security audit.

This component of collaboration between Supreme Audit Institutions is being implemented under the agreement between the State Audit Office of Georgia and the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s Center for Audit Excellence was signed on September 30, 2016. The agreement is aimed to develop professional skills of SAO’s IT auditors. In the future, the experts will collaborate with SAO while the latter carries out two pilot information security audits.

Such collaboration between the two institutions became possible due to the SAO’s current project – IT Audit Development in the State Audit Office of Georgia, funded by the World Bank. The main objective of the project is implementation and further development of the information technology audit capability at SAO in compliance with the international standards.

It is noteworthy that U.S. Government Accountability Office has been a leader within the Supreme Audit Institution community in developing and applying methodologies and approaches for conducting information systems audits for many years. Collaboration between the parties might be considered SAO’s huge success.
