US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan and USAID Mission Director, Peter Wiebler visited the State Audit Office (SAO).
The Auditor General, Irakli Mekvabishvili, and the Deputy Auditor General, Eka Ghazadze, presented the results and achievements from the previous year and the upcoming projects.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the status of a joint project between the SAO and the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) launched this year. Collaboration with the GAO includes areas for assessing the impact of performance audit findings and recommendations and professional expertise as well.
“We had a very useful and important conversation with the Auditor General. The State Audit Office is the principal independent audit agency that plays a very important role in providing transparent, accountable information to the Government. The US further supports and actively works with the SAO in the direction of institutional development and strengthening. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has Good Governance Initiative (GGI) program that has been supporting the supreme audit institution for several years now. Consequently, the SAO is now state of the art and really an example of Georgia`s success story” – concluded US Ambassador, Kelly Degnan.
